Awkward and halting

Is "Awkward" in this example has right meaning for the word in my text?
I noticed that "Ungainly" means almost the same thing as "Awkward"?

He had large feet and his walk was awkward and ungainly.

For "Halting" one of the meaning that I found was "Disabled (a term offensive)" Is it fits here?

"Awkward and halting, vaguely archaic, Reid didn’t like wasting words or time. On his mind today was Obama’s

future in the Senate—and he got right to the point."
