away

Hi,

Do we say: he snatched the girl away from the village. (will this order do, I mean snatching something 'away' from something else? Is 'away' in the right place or must it be snatched away?)

Thanks.

****** away from is the correct word order. This happens to be an example of an unnecessary preposition (away), but it is so common that it is almost idiomatic.

Thank you for clearing that up. Can we simply say 'snatched the girl from the village' without 'away' anywhere in the sentence?
