Award/reward

Could you please tell me that if a person who is first runnerup of some cookery contest doesn't get any prize but still judges provide him job in a hotel then this will be his award or reward.

Also please explain the difference betwwen effect and affect, fraud and defraud and the phrase- round the bend /around the bend are same or different.

Generally, 'award' applies to competitions and 'reward' applies to personal compensation for a good action.
