Await vs. wait

Could anybody explain me the difference between await and wait? thank you

Hello! A big difference already is that "await" is transitive, whereas "wait" has to be used with "for" (I'm waiting for you) I also think that "await" is more abstract; it means "look forward to the probable occurrence of": "when she took the job, she didn't have the slightest notion of what was awaiting her".
