'avoid' each other ACCIDENTALLY

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a verb or an expression to express:

a; They didn't meet each other all day
b. They didn't bump into each other all day

Just to mention a silly (but maybe illustrative) example. Two people walk in a 1 sq km large square on a not predefined route all day. There are houses, blocks of flats, trees, etc. so they can't see through the whole area from every place (within the square). Somehow they don't bump into each other all day.

Important: verb or expression should emphasize this 'accidental behaviour' ("Somehow they don't bump into each other all day.") if it is possible. Maybe 'avoid' is good but as I can see this verb describe a deliberate action (= participants try to avoid each other deliberately). And this is the reason why I ask this question.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I'd use 'bump into' or 'run into'. 'meet' cannot normally be used in this situation. Of course, you'd still have to make clear that you were both in the same place / area.
