Average of grades (ratings)

Hello,

could you, please, tell me whether "ratings" could replace "grades" in this sentence?

"They take into account the average ratings from the postgraduate studies."

Is there a better way of saying it?

Thank you

In an academic context, use grades. I assume you have a reason for saying ' the postgraduate studies'. I'm not really clear on what you are trying to say.

Thank you, Clive.
Actually, I wanted to say "undergraduate studues"
By "they" I meant people in college.
I guess it's a wrong word-choice

So a revised version might be
eg Faculty members take into account each undergraduate's grade average.

Why do they take this into account? For what purpose?

Thank you, Clive.
They take it into account, because in Poland there is a dimploma contest (I'm not sure if it's a good word). So to be accepted into graduate programme, you must have good grades from you first-degree studies.

Clive, I've got one more question. Is it correct to say that apart from each applicant's grade point avarage, Faculty member also take into account the final assessment of undergraduate studies?
By "final assessment" I mean the grade you have on your dimploma.

Apart from each applicant's grade point average, Faculty members also take into account the level of degree finally achieved.

I'm not quite sure how grade point average and level of degree differ.
When I was in University in Britain, we didn't have grades or grade point averages.

Thank you a lot for your answers.
In Poland we have a system in which students who wish do go into graduate programme must apply for it. For the candidate to be admitted, the faculty members take into account how well they did on their final undergraduate exam and the average of all grades achieved in their undergraduate studies. To tell you the truth, I'm so used to the admission requirements
