Autobiography of Said Mahathir

Still clearly remembered when I was in kindergarten, the class subject on that day was drawing. As usually, I am interested in drawing natural scenery such as a mountain panorama, a beach with boat and a couple of coconut trees or a flower garden with a fountain. I thought that my teacher would say that my drawing was good. Unfortunately, it never happened. Some teachers excitingly admired and applauded to my classmate's drawing. I was wondering on what was their applause for. I did not understand of what special was on the drawing that he traced form an image of a book cover, while my father always talked about an originality of concept. He said that the best thing created contains a story on it. He taught me when I was used to participate in painting and drawing competition in some kids magazines that guided by him.

When I was in the junior school, it is proved that my father true. I always got the best mark in art subject and the school also sent me to some competitions inter-school. Since it is happened, I learn that the relativity of interesting category of art or design is different each others.

After graduated from junior school, I decided to continue my study in Islamic boarding school. In this school I learnt many things about my religion besides the others general knowledge. Six years from junior high school until senior high school I survive living in these dorms, far away with my parent, and used to live in simplicity. Still I am really interested in many things about art. I am active in many extracurricular like Islamic calligraphy, drama, and choral group.

The hardest transition phase in my education level is after graduated from senior high school. It was hard to decide what should I take to continue my study in a university and what would it be for my future career. Every suggestion that comes over to me always did not meet with my interest. Until I decided to pursue my bachelor's degree in architecture department at Islamic University of Indonesia in Yogyakarta, I learnt a lot about architecture that contained of art and combined with techniques. Learning architecture is clarifying my interest of art only with a building and environment development in order to creating the best settlement for the best human life.

In brief, art is my life and I am positive want to learn more about art especially in architecture and everything that has correlation on it from an educational institution or some experiences of my job, therefore, I can expand my talent with pleasure and professional. Finally, there are no the best works unless the work that the people enjoyed and favored of its.
