Is there any difference in meaning between "authorise" and "authorize" other than the British -se vs American -ze suffix?

No; outside each word's spelling difference, the words are alike.

You will rarely be wrong using the -ize form. When in doubt that is the ending to use.

The -ze ending is preferred by the Oxford Dictionary, for reasons given at -ize. So this is not a straightforward British/American difference. True, most British people seem to prefer -se for their own writing or typing, whatever the Dictionary says. Br
