these lines were written at the end of a screening of a movie I saw many years ago "the Mortal Storm..."I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year, give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown and he replied "Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God, that will be unto you better than a light and safer than a known way". I think it was referenced to Leigh Hunt but I can't see it the limited works In have seen of his. I think King George V said it in a speech at the beginning ot the second world war
