Aunt

Do you spell Aunty or Auntie?

Top answer

Hi, I usually see 'Auntie'. But where I live, that's a word used mainly by children. Adults normally say 'Aunt'.

Both spellings are acceptable.

Since you ask, I use 'aunty'.

And my adult daughter will call my sister 'Aunty Mary' for the rest of her life.

Personally, I prefer "auntie." Some of my grown-up nieces and nephews still call me "Auntie," and I don't mind at all. I see it as kind of a term of affection.

I will side with Rover as in my area too, aunty is far more common than auntie.
