Audio Books

Hi everyone!

I thought about improving my english by listening to audio books on CD, do you think that will work or do you think it is rather rubbish? Of course it is not entirely about learning, because I enjoy listing to audio books as well, so I thought I could have fun while learning at the same time? What is your opinion about that? I thought about books like The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, The Hobbit, LotR or even Harry Potter.

That's a very good option. However, the problem you could have is that you would came across with many words that you don't know, unless you have a high level of English, if not I'd recommend you to listen to short tales, you can go over them as many times as you wish, and finally you will learn them. As my vocabulary is not well developed yet, that is what I personally do, as a starting point.

  • I don't overwhelm my brain with long books, it's too tiring if you are at a practising stage.
  • All in all, it depends on your level of English.

Hello Na!tSabeS , welcome to the Forums,

I personally think that if the story attracts you, it doesn't matter that it is long. Do you look up for all the words that you do not know in a story while you're reading? I don't, so I think that it is ok if you do not understand every word that you hear as long as you get the story. Though I prefer to read a book, rather than listening to it, si

No, when I read an english book I don't look up every unknown word because mostly I get the meaning (context). I only look up a word when both I really don't have the faintest idea of its meaning and when it's relevant for understanding the sentence. I ordered Angels & Demons today, hopefully it was a good choice. Harry Potter is going to be my next one, I suppose. If you are interest, I can tell

Hello,For me,

I tried to read english books for many times. But,whenever I read, I found so many words that I don't know and made me feel less interesting on those books. I can't still read long books like novels. I prefer listening to reading. Listening audios and texts are very useful for me.This is my opinion.

Best of Luck,

GuGu
