atypically versus atypical

My friend wrote this sentence--

My life has been a series of atypically early experiences: puberty, sexual activity, academic and job progression, motherhood, and marriage.

The word that doesn't seem right to me is "atypically".

Shouldn't it be "atypical" (without the "ly" at the end)?

Thanks!

Top answer

"atypically" modfies "early"; "atypical" would modify "experiences". Probably the former is what is intended.
