Attest Usage

Hi friends,

When should the word "attest" be followed by "to"?

For example (with "to"), "Photos selected by her family from her huge archive attest to her versatility as a photographer."

For example (without "to"), "to attest the truth of a statement."

Thanks everyone!

Oakahe When should the word "attest" be followed by "to"? I'd say offhand that 'to' is optional when the verb is followed by an object.
