"Attend a call"

Hi

It is very common in my place for people to use "attend", "pick" or "take" calls.

They say I called him, but he didn't attend/pick/take the call.

Once of my teachers told that none of these is standard English. He said "we always answer the call".

Today I see attend being used in a famous daily. That is why I wanted to ask the native speakers.

This Ngram (link below) conforms to my listening experience. I've never heard 'attend' or 'pick' the call. However, I have heard "but he didn't pick up" (no "call" at the end, but implied).
