Attach in the progressive

-Instead I showed the points I would cover in answering such a question. Anyway, I am attaching (not simply attach here) whatever I prepared for the lecture in case there is anything useful in it for you.

In my time as a student, some of our teachers would deduct marks for using the red words and say the tense is wrong and that 'only attach is correct', but some others would not. What's the difference between the two tenses?
