Atmosphere vs Environment

Hi

There are a few expressions in my language whose literal translation in English could take both atmosphere and environment.

Could you please tell me if these work at all?

Whenever John comes over, he pollutes the atmosphere/environment of my house. [John causes tension between the speaker and his wife]

Thanks,

Tom

Try, "... he poisons the atmosphere in my house."

Thanks!

Does it mean that the other is not natural? I mean, we do say friendly environment, etc. It wouldn't be natural in English to say:

The environment was no longer friendly. It had been poisoned/polluted.

No, that doesn't sound natural to me.
