a/the vulgar email

Someone sends me a vulgar email. I tell him;

1. I received a vulgar email from you. Why did you send it?
2. I received the vulgar email from you. Why did you send it?

I think #1 ('a vulgar email' is OK). But 'the' can also be used, right? He knows about that e-mail, because he sent it, so it's OK too?
