At the times almost corresponding to those

(ex) Strangely, Tom has faced life challenges at the times almost corresponding to those his uncle had his personal issues.

Let me put this in a context. This is not a true story.

Tom lost both of his parents and two of his siblings when he was nine to twelve.

His uncle's parents had a difficult time together when he was ten to fourteen.

Tom dropped out of school at age fifteen.

His uncle lost his hearing at age sixteen.

Tom was unemployed for two years starting in 2000.

His uncle was sick for two years starting in 1980.

Is it OK to say "at the times almost corresponding to those"? Thanks a lot.

Top answer

No, that doesn't really work. Say eg Strangely, Tom has faced life challenges at almost the same points in his life as his uncle had his personal issues.
