at the bottom

Hi,

I have difficulty distinguishing when to use 'at the bottom' and 'on the bottom'.

I think if you are looking at a piece of paper, you should say 'at the bottom of the sheet', but how do you if you want to direct your children's eyes to the top part of the paper? Look at the top of the sheet/paper? And it can go on like this?

Left/right corner of the sheet/paper

How about 'on the bottom'?

On the bottom of the trashcan lies a live roach. -- Sounds correct?
