At the best of times, had a shocker

At the best of times, Pakistan cricket is a hotbed of controversy, conspiracy and allegations and counter-allegations. At a time when the national team has just lost a Test match against Australia in Australia that it had no business losing, the normal chaos is multiplied by ten.

The latest is the case of Kamran Akmal. Kamran, by any cricketing reckoning, had a shocker behind the stumps at Sydney. However, it now appears possible that in spite of the PCB explicitly flying Sarfaraz Ahmed over to Australia so that he could replace Kamran, that might not happen for the third Test.

Thanks Clive a lot.

I wonder what you mean by "even when things are going as well as possible".

Does it mean "Even when things are going well"?

Sorry if I'm a stupid here but I really can't understand it.

Hi,

even when things are going as well as they can go

It makes 'well' a relative term.

eg Tom is an Olympic champion. He runs 100 meters in 9 seconds. He runs well.

eg Mike has lost his toes. He runs 100 met

Again, thanks a lot Clive.

Now I understand, in an otherwise, it means "as far as possible".
