At speeds many times faster than...

If the technology proves successful, subscribers with small dishes will connect to the Internet at speeds many times faster than what is now available over residential cable or DSL services.

Why do they use the plural 'speeds'?

Thanks

Because they are referring to the many subscribers, each with his own dish. Perhaps the subscribers will experience slightly different speeds, some a little faster, some slower, but all much faster than DSL. (This sounds great!

LOL, Del!
I'm afraid that's true. I heard that most of the clicks on the net are really related to ****... and most of the email (I think 90%) is actually spam. Amazing!

Anyway, I think "speeds" (plural) is used because they are referring to several possible speeds, different speeds, variable speeds, etc. Like 256, 512, 1024, etc kb/s, for example.
