Is it true that "At present, I am working as a bartender" sounds odd?

I think it's similar if not the same as "I am currently working...."

In the US (Clive is Canadian), "At present, I'm working as a bartender.", is grammatical, but it sounds overly formal and snooty. "I'm currently working as a bartender." is better, more informal-sounding. Even better would be simply: "I'm a bartender at ____ ."
