At or in the night

Is the proper usage at night or in the night.

I will call you at/in the night.

I will do my homework at/in the night.

We can work on that at/in the night.

'At' sounds better to me. Which should I use? Are there cases where a specific one is only the correct choice?

Thanks.

Me, too.

No, but there are cases when one is normal and the other is not. 'In the night' generally occurs when we are speaking of a specific action for a limited time within that period of darkness.

Thank you teacher. Would you give me an example where in the night would sound normal but not at night, as you explained regarding a specific action for a limited time.

So, generally at night is more commonly used for most cases and there are rare times when in the night is preferred. Am I right?
