At or in the boundary

Dear friends,

I want to know the difference between "at the boundary" and "in the boundary". For example:

There is a sharp elemental change in/at the boundary between a and b rocks in the rock column.

Thanks

"change in the boundary" means that the nature or position of the boundary changes. "change at the boundary" means that conditions are different on either side of the boundary. In this case I expect you want "at".
