Yes, it's a little hard to get used to!

Your best bet is probably not to use the "comment" button to reply when you have a follow-up question. Hit the reply button just to the left of the "comment" button instead. It has a little arrow on it that swoops down toward the left, and it's the middle button of three. Maybe if you try that button, you will like the system better.
