1-In is used for large and cosmetic places like COUNTRY/CITY/...I live in Korea..

2-In can be use for a place which is covered by the roof.....I can see the birds in the cage./There are 5 eggs in the box./in my pocket/

2-On is use for flat and open-air place....Put the books on the table./The passengers were on the board of the ship..
