at / in a castle

Which preposition do you prefer with castles? Do you say at* or *in (Windsor or whatever) Castle? E.g. "at the weekend I was ... XY castle" ? Thank you!

Yes, I suppose so. Does it mean then, that when you want to express that you visited a castle (went on a trip to the castle), without specifically referring to what you saw IN the building, you'd rather use "AT"? I'd say so, only I'm not sure...

It This is really quite simple. If you are inside the building, then you are IN the castle/museum/house etc etc. If you are next to or beside or near the building, you are AT the castle/museum etc etc.
example: Where is John? He is at the museum (his intention is to visit the museum and he may or may not be inside it but this is his destination)
Where is John? He is in the museum. ( I am
