At a meeting/conference vs In a meeting/conference

Hi,

I haven't found any answer to this. Maybe you could help me.

Which one is correct:

He is in a meeting/conference right now. Would you like to leave a message?
He is at a meeting/conference right now. Would you like to leave a message?

In the US, if the person is on site, but unavailable due to a meeting, he's in a meeting.

If he is away from the site because he has travelled to a meeting, he's at at meeting.

I'll be in a meeting today from 3-4. Next week, I'll be at a meeting in Denver.

Hi there. Well, as an answer to your question, I believe that "He's at a conference" means that he is occupied with this activity at the moment; not necessarily being in the room which such conference is going to take place, but, maybe, somewhere nearby, doing something related to it. "In" would mean just the opposite of what was previously stated.
