assure

Is it correct to say,
Victory would assure them a place in the finals. ??

And if that is possible, how about saying
.....assure a place in the finals to them.
Is it also O.K. without changing the meaning of the first sentence?

Then, what do you think about the fact that the first sentence is exemplified in the oxford dictionary?
Though I also think that this sentence looks odd, I don't know why they have this sentence in the dictionary. Is it really to be wrong to use such a sentence form?

You obviously know more English grammar than I do. Your terminology is unknown to me. There are others here who could go all day

Well, to excuse myself for using those terms, I thought that teachers might be spared from reading a long question by using such terms. And it turned out to be wrong idea. It was my mistake.

I just now searched that word and it seems that ensure permits two patterns with regard to the sequence of indirect and direct object.
ex. ensure a person a post = ensure a post for[or to] a person
If this interchangeability goes for any objects followed by ensure, ensure is a better choice than
