Assume or assumptions

Which makes more sense:
The fact that Bob makes assumptions of Cindy's character
or
The fact that Bob assumes Cidny's character

They have different meanings.
Suppose that Cindy is honest, truthful, and sincere.

1) Bob makes assumptions about Cindy's character. Bob believes that Cindy is honest, truthful, and sincere (without knowing for certain)

2) Bob assumes Cindy's character. Bob becomes honest, truthful and sincere himself.
This is a less frequent use of the verb "assume"
