assuage and therapeutic

Could you please check if I am using the words "assuage and therapeutic" correctly?

Your lovely letter lifted up my spirits and assuaged the (should I use "the" or "my" here-why or why not) pain. It proved more therapeutic than the(again "the" or not) pain killers I was taking at the time.

Also, I have already been trying for two days to join your community. Every my attempt to do so is of no avail. The message I get is "An error occured while attempting to create this user." and an asterisk appears beside my alias. Could you please let me know what I am doing wrong?

Thank you for your help!

Hope

HI,

My one suggestion: clarify what "it" is.

It refers to the letter. Now I can see why it causes confusion. Instead of using "the letter" again what could I use?

Thank you for your help Julielai!
