assortment

Which is better?

Oil processing, or oil technology in a refinery depends on the type of oil which is being processed as well as on the desired range of products/assortment of products.

Antonija. I'm not sure but I would think 'assortment' is mostly used in the retail business (clothes and apparel for instance) whereas 'range' would be better for the bulk type of goods you're talking about here. There's also 'array of products' but I still like 'range' better.

  • Also I have this feeling that you probably don't need to repeat 'on' a second time after 'as well as'.

'Oil refining' is the common term to used.

The oil is broken down into different 'grades' of refined petroleum products.

Thank you both.

Squeaky, in my text the author mentions oil processing and oil refining, so perhaps I should keep this differentiation, don't you think?

By using both terms this covers the entire process from when the oil is pumped out of the ground to when it is refined and sold to customers.

So if this is included in the context of this author's article then my answer would be, yes...
