Associations or relationships between friends and family members.

Hi everyone,
I know that the question word "whose" asks questions about the person or the people that possesses something.

I would like to know which explanation is better for this other use of "whose" or if there's another one that can match it.
a) The question word whose can also ask about associations between friends and family members.
b) The question word whose can also ask about relationships between friends and family members.

Thanks.
