Assets

When speaking of a amounts of money which are in debt to me, would it be correct to say:

"I would like to receive those assets back.

(Or does the word 'asset' only apply to material things, such as jewels, cars, houses, etc?)

Christine Christie When speaking of a amounts of money which are in debt owed to me, would it be correct to say:"I would like to receive those assets back. Normally, no, not if you are talking about someone paying money they owe you. You would normally say something like: I'd like my money ( back ) I'd like to be paid I'd like to be repaid (if it was a loan in the first place) By the way, it's the person who owes you money that is in debt to you, not the money.
