Asking multiple questions in a sentence

Hello, how can I ask two question in a sentence? Like this:

"Who invented this, and why?" or like this: "Who invented this? And why?"

how can I ask two question in a sentence? Like this:

"Who invented this, and why?" or like this: "Who invented this? And why?"

#1 is more strictly correct. But #2 is not unusual.

Who invented this and why was it invented is perhaps more formal.However, there was nothing overly informal about the original, in my opinion.
