Asking for recommendation
the situation is, I have just recently asked this Professor for a recommendation letter. Now I want to apply for additional jobs and need him on the reference list. I want to ask this as polietly as possible. What do you think of this letter?
Dear Professor XYZ,
I am sorry to bother you once more.
Since it will take several weeks until I receive the decision about the XYZ position mentioned in the last emails, I am applying for alternative positions in the meantime. Therefore, I am asking you whether I could add your name as a reference to 1-2 other applications. They then may or may not contact you about a recommendation letter.
I assume that you are quite busy but I would be very glad if you were available.
