Asking again: past perfect and past perfect continous in particular situation

Hi, I didn't get a response when I posted this question with more details before so I have shorten and changed part of the question to include only very important points.

I think the use of javascript:void(0) in the subordinate clause is not needed to make the context clear, thus the use isn't necessary. How about the passive perfect continous?

After he had read the novel, the got up to play tennis. -- the underlined tense can be a past like
"After he had read the novel, the got up to play tennis," I think.

Can we change tenses for this without affecting/changing the meaning or context like the one above?

Is this passive perfect continous?
After he had been reading the story book for some time, he got up to play tennnis.
