review the meanings? I don't understand. If I know that a person is definitely not going to school at the moment, then do I ask did you go to cooking school or have you gone to cooking school?

If I knew that a person is going to some school at the moment then do I ask have you or did you?

Beacuse I'm guessing that if I know the person education is aleady finished then I use simple past "did you go" beacuse the action of that education is finished, no?

Hi,

No, that's not the basic idea.

Did you go to cooking school? Just asks about the past. Doesn't tell us anything about the present situation.

Have you gone to cooking school? Asks about the past, but in a way that

OK but I still don't get it... Generally how do usually people ask about school. What past tense do they use.

I know if you were asking about a year ie 1993 then you'd surely say did you go to school in 1993

But what about a particular school, regardless of the time...

which past tense to use if you ask about particular school like cooking or IT or medical school?

Hi,

My point is that it depends on why you are asking, ie the context in which you are asking.

If your focus is wholely on the past, just use Simple Past tense.

eg Let's talk about last winter. I went to a painting class. Did you go to

Eh yes but I'm more asking in situations like if employer a head chef is asking about your resume and then should he ask did you ever go to cooking school or have you ever gone to cooking school??

And what about "have you went to school". When you type that in google it shows a lot of results. That's confusing. Is "have you went" even correct? If yes then when do you use it.

He should ask 'Have you ever got to cooking school?', because it has importance to the present situation.
