Hello everyone.
I have a question for you all today.
It is about some sentences including "to" as you can see on the title of thread.
Some sentences;
1-) I have gained access to your computer.
2-) I took a bus to the city centre.
How can we ask a question to those sentences?
In my opinion, the following ones don't make sense to me.
1a-) What have you gained access to?
2a-) Where did you take a bus?
They doesn't make sense to me at all because I don't think that "to" used in them is not an adverbial.
If it was adverbial, these questions would make sense
"What have you gained it to?", "Where did you take it?" but they don't.
So, In my opinion we should ask like
1b-) Access to what?(in spoken) or What/which access have you gained(standart english type of question)?
2b-) A bus to where?(in spoken) or What bus did you take(standart english type of question)?
What do you think?
