Asked or had asked

Last week she celebrated her birthday. I was not invited. I accidentally met her today. I told her the following:


  1. If you asked, I would have come.
I think it should be the following:

  1. If you had asked, I would have come.

    Please tell me the correct sentence in this context.

I guess the reason is as follows:

Today I am talking about an event which should have taken place in the past.

Think of it this way. Both events are hypothetical. They didn't happen. You are talking about an event ('ask') that might have taken place b

Now I am curious about the simple past senentce.

Is it possible to use both of the above for an event which took place a few minutes ago?

#2 is not really about a past event. It's OK if you want to talk

It's hypothetical, for conditions that are not possible or highly unlikely.
