Asked / Asks

Hi,

I am confused with the following, please advise. Thanks.

Example:

Jason called but my boss was in the meeting, so I took a message and leave it on his desk "Jason called, he asked/asks you to return his call when you are back from the meeting."

Which is one is correct?Should I use asked or asks in the message above?

Hi, Both are OK. 'Asks' conveys more that Jason still wants that. 'Asked' is more commonly used in such a context.
