Ask someone / ask for something (can we say ask your opinion?)

We normally use the syntax ask for something.

And I know we sometimes use the syntax ask + something (e.g. a question).

I was just wondering if the following sentence is correct.

I'd like to ask your opinion concerning this matter.

I'd like to ask your opinion concerning this matter.
Yes. That's a completely unremarkable pattern. You hear it quite often. I think it would be unusual to add "for" in this case, although it would not be wrong.
