This is my motivation letter, any comments is welcome!
Dear Prof.***
I am writing to apply for the PhD. position in ___ at University of ______. I apply for your PhD project for three reasons. The first is that the project of “___________” precisely matches my particular area of interest in _______: how to support cooperation and improve software process. The second is the high reputation of your university for producing outstanding graduates and keeping pace with changes in the world of SPI. And the third is your close relationship with well known global companies, which ensures that theoretical expertise is supported by real experience. The combination of these factors makes your PhD project the natural choice for me.
I will complete my Master’s Program of Computer Science in Aug 2005 from the *** university, the Netherlands. My objective is to become a faculty member at a leading university and investigate issues concerned with software engineering as it affects product/process quality, organizational strategy, and system architecting. My over 5-year formal training in computer science and 2-year work experience in a big software company could allow me to make a useful contribution to your team.
Before came to the Netherlands on September 2003, I had two-year work experience, worked as software engineer, development team leader and internal CMM consultant. At university, I worked as a student assistant in software architect group and software quality lab. I developed a UML design refactoring tool, in c++ .NET. It is a research project of "Using metrics in UML design refactoring". I have a passion for research and am especially interested in further developing my skills in empirical research.
Now I am doing my final master project in LogicaCMG. This is a project of "patterns-oriented software architecture performance analysis and model refactoring". We plan to build a tool for exploring architectural designs that integrates analyses of a number of quality attributes, especially availability, reliability and performance. It could assess the quality of architecture design quantitatively. This tool works by providing a designer with a number of patterns & tactics that he can 'apply to' a system. The system should then calculate the effect of applying this pattern to the relevant quality properties. Now I am working on defining meta-model for our new "patterns-oriented" evaluation and refactoring theories and tool.
The enclosed resume includes all the details related to my qualifications.
I look forward to an opportunity of discussing my qualifications in detail. Hope to hear from you. Thank you very much
Sincerely Yours Jiang Zhang
