It is true that the innovation in technology has brought great benefits to society. While the increased use of machines can have several advantages, I believe that the negative consequences are greater.

There are a number of positive effects when machines are used to replace manual work. Firstly, the use of robots in the manufacturing process can increase productivity and save the production costs. Machines may work longer hours at a more precise level without being exhausted, especially when it comes to repetitive work in manufactures. Thus, the price of products could be reduced, which stimulates the rise of consumer society and eventually generates wealth for people. Secondly, machines could replace humans in some dangerous duties such as coal mining and the discovery of space, meaning that people can avoid potential accidents at work.

However, I believe that the drawbacks of relying on machines are greater than the benefits. Primarily, a number of workers will lose their jobs, and the national budget will be put under strain because the government is still the main provider of welfare for the unemployed. The worst case is that when the unemployment rate increases, several social problems such as high crime and poverty rates will escalate, threatening social security. Furthermore, machines are sometimes unreliable, and the increased dependence on them can cause acute problems. For example, when the computer system goes down, it may result in a domino effect on the banking system, which is far beyond our imagination.

In conclusion, it seems to me that the dependence on machines has potential problems despite some undeniable benefits it may bring to our life.
