Ask for a leave letter

Hello,everyone.I am Endy.I want to ask for a leave from my professor as my father is now physically in a very bad condition.Here is the letter I wrote.Please help me correct it if there is any mistakes.Thank u very much.
Dear Professsor...,
I am now writing to request permission from you for a short leave of absence starting from January 24,because I was informed by my mother this morning that my father was physically in a very bad condition.And I am very anxious about that.I would appreciate it if you grant me the permission.
