Ask

Scenario: Anna buys a car from Tim.

1. Anna's friend asks her why she didn't get it during the summer. (Let's say I'm making a present imgainary scenario, making a story up. Is 'asks' okay with 'didn't' ?)

2. Anna's friend asks her, "Why didn't you get it during the summer?" (This is the exact phase she said?)

Thanks.
