Aside from v. other than

I try to undertand aside from. Is it a verb? Would you please explain in this example?

"Ammonium nitrate is used for explosive producing aside from fertilizer." which is intended to mean "Ammonium nitrate is used for explosive producing other than used for producing fertilizer."

Is this correct?
