I know that phrases like "as much as possible," "as soon as possible," and "as small as possible" are very commonly used, but I'm trying to figure out if they are really grammatically correct. I think these phrases mean "as much as is possible," etc.... Is the "is" here implied? I'm not sure why the "is" can correctly be left out. (p.s. I am a native speaker) Thanks
