As well as reducing crowding

Experts say that it is necessary for us to rely less on cars. Instead, people should be encouraged to take public transport like buses and trains. Large parking lots can be built on the edges of cities, for instance. People could park their cars there and then take buses to the city center. As well as reducing crowding in the cities, this would be better for the environment.

Does the line in bold read good? Would it be better to reword it as the following? Thanks.

Besides/In addition to reducing/alleviating/lessening the crowded condition in the cities,
