Topic: As well as making money, businesses also have social responsibilities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Length: 329 words

"Should maximizing the profit be the chief target of every corporations in general or should they are obliged to have duties on social aspect? This has undeniably raised a question about the scope of resposibilites enterprises should have while making money from their own nations and people. From my point of view, I totally agree that besides making money, companies should partly take charge of the people’s lives.

On the one hand, that corporations must maximize profits has brought about several advantages for them and society as a whole. Firstly, having a strong financial statement means that they could, therefore, offer employees with better conditions such as higher salary, friendly working environment. Secondly, national taxes majorly come from a rich source of companies’ profits and with more taxes, governments can provide more for the people. For example, taxes help the authorities to sponsor several research and projects on improving the population’s standard of living or building useful facilities.

On the other hand, there are a handful of strongly-proved reasons why enterprises should make contribution to the society. Firstly, throughout the process of production, companies can hardly avoid environmentally harmful effects which adversely influence the locals and nature. As a consequence, they should, therefore, take responsibilities to reduce the impact they have made by investing in technological solutions to shelter people and environment from negative effects of factories’ emission or industrial waste. Secondly, our very existence should focus on how to improve human’s standard of living and corporation unavoidably lie outside this urgent mission. Thus, they are encouraged to allocate an amount of money into charities or to eliminate extreme poverty. One popular example is Unilever, which has supported the poor by granting scholarships, building heath centers in the remote areas, together with the help of the indigenous authorities.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that along with the aim of earning maximzed profits, corporations should refect on what they can do to make the world a better place to live."
